What is ‘Piedmont is Home?’

“Piedmont is Home” is the umbrella title for the City of Piedmont housing policy work. This term includes the SB 2 Housing Programs Project, Measure A1 grant, and the next Housing Element update. The Piedmont is Home website is a clearinghouse for information about new housing policy in Piedmont and project updates, as well as interactive ways to participate in the public engagement for these projects.

Housing Element Update

The Piedmont Housing Element is one of the required elements (chapters) of the Piedmont General Plan, the constitution for land development and City services in Piedmont. Every eight years, cities must update their Housing Elements to identify the sites and programs that are going to make each city capable of producing the housing unit quotas established by the State of California’s regional housing needs allocation (RHNA) process.

SB2

The SB 2 Housing Programs Project is a grant-funded project to increase housing production in the near term (within the next three to five years). The SB 2 Planning Grant will research incentives for construction of accessory dwelling units (ADU cottages and apartments) that are rent-restricted or otherwise affordable to very low and low income residents, as well as other tasks. The SB 2 grant will also be used to develop objective design standards for multifamily and mixed-use development in Zone C and Zone D.

Measure A1

Measure A1 is a property tax revenue bond for development of affordable housing in Alameda County. Measure A1 is a potential source of funding for housing for low to very low income residents in Piedmont.
